To ensure alignment with the township’s zoning and development standards, development in Michigamme Township MUST undergo a review by either the Zoning Administrator or Planning Commission. Be Sure to get a Zoning Permit before beginning construction. This page includes forms, plans, and other information related to that process. For an overview of the development review timeline, see the Michigamme Township Guide to Development (button below).
Zoning Ordinance
The Zoning Ordinance consists of two parts:
- The zoning map, which shows the designated zoning district for each parcel.
- The zoning information.
Determining your parcel’s zoning designation using the map and then applicable zoning regulations is the first step in any development project. If you are unsure of which district your parcel is in, the township can help you determine that.
Conceptual Review Meetings
The township encourages anyone interested in developing in Michigamme to schedule a conceptual review meeting with the Zoning Administrator. Such a meeting will allow a chance to discuss the project, ensure you have the correct forms, and work through any potential concerns. Depending on your project, other topics may be discussed, such as state incentives or other permits that will be needed. All that is needed to schedule one is a general idea of your planned development and a location. To schedule a meeting, please contact the Township Office.
